Best Friends Veterinary Group Principal, Andrew Bennett BVMS MRCVS, graduated from Glasgow University in 1988, and began his career at Broadway Veterinary Clinic in Peterborough, as a general practice small animal Veterinary Surgeon.
After nine months Andrew decided to go back to his home county Essex where he remained until an unexpected, but very welcome phone call was received. Andrew was offered the chance to buy the practice that he had started his career in and that was the start of Best Friends Veterinary Group!
From one surgery in 1991, Best Friends Veterinary Group now comprises of 36 small animal practices, trading as Best Friends Veterinary Group or VetSavers, across Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, London, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.
Our practices are a mixture of acquisitions as well as new start ups and comprises of sole charge practices as well as multi-vet practices. We are please to participate in the RCVS Practice Standards scheme, as well as being committed to training the next generation of veterinary nurses with over 20% of our practices registered as RCVS training centres.
Despite the tough economic climate our business is still growing and we are looking forward to opening more practices in 2014. We continue to develop our offering to clients and reacting to the changing environment of the world we live in with the addition of social media, value added services and non traditional forms of the veterinary practice model.
We continue to work with many organisations such as the Cats Protection, PDSA, RSPCA, various Constabularies, HMPS, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Woodgreen Animal Shelter, plus many more national and local charities, shelters and organisations.
We are also very proud of our staff and our commitment to them. As well as the wonderful receptionists, care assistants, trainee nurses, nurses, and vets in our practices, we also have a team of support staff to complete the Best Friends family. We have accounts, admin, HR, IT, laboratory, maintenance and marketing staff, as well as our team of Area Managers, bringing us to almost 200 employees!
Andrew is still a registered Vet and although he does not perform GP work, he does still practice and perform Orthopaedic surgery. He is also still a proactive member of the Glasgow Vet School alumni, and is on the Vet School Development Fund Committee for the university.
