My career currently comprises three different types of veterinary work:
(1) Small animal locum work, based in the Warwickshire area, but with additional bases in Devon and Suffolk. I have covered holidays and recruitment gaps for a range of practices from sole practitioner to multi-branch hospitals. I work on a self-employed basis with my own VDS cover.
(2) Consultant roles for two orang-utan conservation charities: the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (www.orangutan.or.id) based in Indonesia, and the Orangutan Appeal (www.orangutan-appeal.org.uk) based in the UK.
(3) Independent epidemiological research into conditions affecting orangutans in captivity, particularly in tropical rehabilitation centres; my overall research project is entitled "Important Diseases of Rehabilitant Orangutans". I have recently presented our findings of air sacculitis risk factors at the BVZS Autumn Meeting and the International Primatological Society 2014 Congress.
